Former CSK pacer Ashish Nehra hoping for clearance for IPL to happen in October

first_imgNew Delhi: The fate of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League hangs in balance as the coronavirus outbreak has seen sporting events across the world come to a standstill. After the likes of Steve Smith and Jos Buttler, now even former Chennai Super Kings pacer Ashish Nehra feels that the cash-rich league should take place. Ashish Nehra shared his views on the possibility of IPL 2020 on Star Sports 1 Hindi show and said: “Even if the IPL doesn’t happen in August, there are lot of places in India that witness rains during that month and there are high chances that lots of matches will get cancelled. If things go back to normal around the world by October, we’ll have a 100 per cent clearance.”Rajasthan Royals skipper Smith on Tuesday said: “Plenty going on in the world at present, but hopefully we can get an IPL at some stage. The two seasons that I captained the Royals were both half seasons, Shane Watson gave me the captaincy in 2015 and then last year out of the blue I took over at the back end of the season. Looking at having a crack at it full time and the Royals have a pretty good squad.”Smith’s RR teammate Jos Buttler believes its a “big shame” that the lucrative T20 tournament cannot be held at the moment due to the coronavirus outbreak. The 13th edition stands suspended till April 15 and chances of it being held in the near future are also grim.Buttler however is hoping that IPL can be slotted later in the year. “I don’t know any more than you know about when IPL would be played or people talking about whether it can be pushed back. At the moment, everything is quite indefinite as no one knows how long it will last. So, it can’t be decided at the moment when it could or could not happen,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Buttler as saying. uQuery: A More Convenient Way to Search the App Store

first_imgWhy Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Related Posts 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Even though Apple launched a major redesign of iTunes yesterday, searching the iTunes App Store is still a bit of a hassle, especially because iTunes lacks convenient options to filter apps by price, category, or release date. Given the amount of apps available in the store, even Apple’s new Genius feature for the App Store isn’t likely to make finding new apps much easier. UQuery, however, sets out to change all of this by indexing all the apps in the store and making this index available through a web-based search engine. What makes uQuery so useful is that it allows users to filter searches by price, release date, and category.  UQuery also indexes every app’s description and screenshots in the App Store. What’s sorely missing, however, is customer reviews. The ability to organize search results according to reviews would potentially make these search results a lot more valuable. Another caveat worth mentioning is that uQuery currently only indexes apps available in the US store. In uQuery, however, all it takes is two clicks to filter out older or more expensive apps. While search on uQuery is great, however, the service does not (yet?) provide users with a good way to simply browse the store. You can’t, for example, just look at all the new games published in the last week that are available for $0.99 or less.Earlier this year we wrote about App Engine, another web-based alternative to the App Store. App Engine, however, is currently offline. App Engine basically recreated the App Store on the web – including Apple’s layout. App Engine is now offline, making uQuery one of the best web-based alternatives to iTunes, though other alternatives like iphonexe.com are also worth a look.Tip of the hat to AppScout for bringing uQuery to our attention.last_img read more

WorkHands Wants To Become The Blue-Collar LinkedIn

first_imgA Comprehensive Guide to a Content Audit lauren orsini According to the most recent statistics from the Kaiser Family Foundation, blue collar workers make up roughly 60% of the workforce in each U.S. state.  However, you’d never know that browsing the Internet. While there are dozens of job boards that specialize in white collar jobs, if you’re looking for a skilled labor job, your best bet is to check your local Craigslist listings. The staff of WorkHands, is hoping to change that. A LinkedIn-like service for blue collar workers in the U.S., a new social network that launched Tuesday. Putting The Internet To WorkA software engineer, WorkHands CEO Patrick Cushing is the black sheep of his blue collar family. His dad fixed oil burners for a living, and his brother is a professional welder. He realized first hand that blue collar workers are always online, even if their jobs are not. “My brother has had Facebook since the beginning,” he said. “I looked at someone like my brother and realized he had all these online tools for his social life and none for his work career.”Perhaps because of the white collar backgrounds of most Silicon Valley types, most job networks are designed with similar job hunters in mind. There are thousands of blue collar professionals connected on LinkedIn, but Cushing argues that network doesn’t cater to them as specifically as WorkHands does. “Linkedin makes it really hard to demonstrate what you’re great at in the trades,” he said. “If you’re a great welder, one of the best ways to demonstrate that is to show your welds.”A machinist’s profile on WorkHands. In the same vein, the most prominent part of any WorkHands profile is a photo gallery. In this early adopter’s profile, photos of the student’s metalwork are placed more prominently than his experience or education history. Just like skillful code can be a ready calling card for a tech job, a well-welded piece of metal may be all a trades employer needs to see. WorkHands profiles also include sections you’d never see on LinkedIn, such as a place for workers to list the types of power tools they own and can use or a list of the workers’ licenses and certifications, used for operating heavy machinery or driving utility vehicles. But through testers, the WorkHands crew has met with the most enthusiasm with the photo gallery feature. “So many of the workers we talk to, we ask about their work and they pull out their phone and have pages and pages of photos of it,” said Cushing.  “They’re inherently proud of the work they do with their hands.”Keeping Social GoingFor this reason, the WorkHands crew believes that it can keep workers using the network even after they’ve already found a job. They can upload photos and approve of connections’ handiwork by clicking the “solid” button, a straight-talking version of Facebook’s “like.” Other features are on the way, too. This quarter, Cushing hopes to launch private networks for technical schools, employers, and other organizations, a mobile app, and a job board. Right now WorkHands is free for workers and employers alike, but eventually the network will make money by charging companies for their job listings. Already, WorkHands has helped a handful of students at Laney College in Oakland, CA find jobs at a local ironworking company. The network has worked well for students, who are already constantly online, and for companies, which before have never had a network to find welders, woodworkers, and other skilled laborers all in one place. The blue collar Internet already existed, said Cushing. They just needed the right tools.“The assumption that this workforce isn’t already online is something we’re really trying to challenge,” said Cushing.Image of WorkHands team courtesy of WorkHands. BJP leader’s remark on triple talaq victims sparks row in Odisha House

first_imgThe Odisha Assembly witnessed pandemonium on Thursday after Bishnu Charan Sethi, deputy leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, stoked a controversy when he said that triple talaq victims were being forced into prostitution. The BJP MLA was replying to the Congress members who had on Wednesday criticised the BJP-led government at the Centre for pushing through the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill in Parliament.Mr. Sethi claimed that some political parties had been opposing the Bill with an eye on minority votes. Those opposing it should keep in mind that the legislation was passed to protect the interests of women, he said, while adding that he had only quoted findings of some survey reports.“What is wrong in quoting survey reports in the House? I have not made any adverse remark against any community, but quoted survey reports that say Muslim women dominate the red light areas in Mumbai and Kolkata,” Mr. Sethi saidThe practice of “triple talaq” was abolished in 38 countries including Pakistan and Bangladesh, the BJP leader maintained.“The Bill has nothing to do with religion and is aimed at eradicating a social evil. Now, one cannot divorce his wife just by uttering ‘talaq-talaq-talaq’ in an inebriated state or via a mobile phone message,” he addedBJD protestsMr. Sethi’s statement soon evoked strong opposition from members of both opposition Congress and ruling BJD members. The Congress MLAs rushed to the well of the House to disrupt the proceedings, while some BJD members protested by standing on their seats.Senior Congress MLA Narasingha Mishra countered Mr. Sethi by saying that the BJP leader should not make statements against a particular community that would incite communal tension.Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro had to adjourn the proceedings after he failed to restore normalcy in the House. Similar scenes were created by Congress MLAs in the post-lunch session, forcing adjournments. The Speaker had to adjourn the House five times and finally for the day after transacting some normal business amid uproarious scenes.Meanwhile, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik demanded that Mr. Sethi apologise for making derogatory statements about Muslim women. The party will protest if Mr. Sethi did not apologise, Mr. Patnaik said at a press conference. (With PTI inputs)last_img read more
