Thirty-two-year-old Paul Bishop was on Friday hauled before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts slapped with a gun possession charge.Bishop, who plies his trade as a carpenter, denied the allegation that was made out against him.The court heard that the Freeman Street, Albouystown resident on October, 9, 2018, had a .32 pistol in his possession without being the holder of a firearm licence. The prosecution is contending that on the day in question, Police ranks acting on information carried out a search on the defendant while he was in the Freeman Street, Albouystown area, when the unlicensed weapon was found on his person.According to reports, the accused was on a pedal bicycle when he was confronted by the lawmen and had confessed in an oral statement that he had found the revolver while he was “digging in the front yard”.Further, Police Prosecutor Richard Harris objected to bail being granted on the grounds of the serious nature of the charge. The prosecution’s submission was upheld by the Chief Magistrate who later remanded Bishop to prison until October 31.

McKINLEYVILLE >> It only took three sets for the McKinleyville volleyball team to route St. Bernard’s but at times it seemed like a fourth or fifth set would be on the menu Wednesday at McKinleyville High School. The Panthers took all three at 25-21, 25-16 and 25-17 but the Crusaders played tough and kept it close by taking advantage of the lack of talking on the McKinleyville side of the net.“(The girls) were not communicating and we tend to start out slow,” McKinleyville head coach Diana …
Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Who needs to be certified?By the law and regulations created with the passage of Senate Bill 150 in 2014 anyone in Ohio who applies fertilizer to 50 acres or more must be certified. This law applies to fertilizer (material having an analysis). If it’s manure, lime or other farm residue, you do not need to be certified by this law.If all of your crop goes through an animal before it leaves the farm, you don’t need to be certified, but I think it’s a good idea if you do go to the class and get certified anyway. How do you get certified? The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) will certify applicators in Ohio. If you are a Licensed Pesticide Applicator in Ohio, you attend a two-hour meeting and fill in and sign the attendance form. Ohio State University personnel supply the education for this class. We hope you pay attention and actually learn something. If you are not a Licensed Pesticide applicator, then the process is a little different. You attend a three-hour class again from Ohio State University Extension and complete and sign the forms, submit an application and then pay a $30 fee to the Ohio Department of Agriculture. If you are a Certified Crop Adviser, you do not have to attend the fertilizer applicator training. We assume you have taken the exams, know about nutrient management and are already acquiring the required five hours of CEUs for NM (nutrient management), so you have the education. But you will need to show proof of your credentials and apply to ODA for the certification. If you are a CLM — Certified Livestock Manager — same thing. You already do the education, just show proof and submit the application to ODA.Find applicator certification training sessions from OSU Extension at: http://pested.osu.edu/NutrientEducation. Can I supervise a family member or farm employee to make a fertilizer application?Yes. A Certified Fertilizer Applicator can supervise a family member or farm employee without a certificate, if they are under your control and you supply instructions on where, when and how to apply the fertilizer. However, I cannot supervise my wife, since she is never under my control and she will not take my instructions — ODA may give me some leeway on this one. This is a long way down the road, but will I need to recertify and how will I do so?Folks are actually thinking ahead on this subject, and yes there will be a recertification process. Our first goal is to get the approximately 18,000 applicators trained in the two- or the three-hour program. This will need to be completed by September 2017, so the group we trained in late 2014 and early 2015 will recertify in 2018. Again, Ohio State University Extension will do the training and ODA will be the agency who will actually certify you in this process. In the future, for Licensed Pesticide Applicators the renewal or recertification will be done together in the same year. There is only one renewal fee and that is the same $30 you pay now for your Pesticide license renewal. For the non-pesticide licensed fertilizer applicators, this will be in the year of their first certification — 2015, 2016 or 2017. Then they will renew in 2018, 2019 or 2020, respectively. They will pay a $30 renewal fee. Do I need a nutrient management plan? The quick answer is yes. But it isn’t necessarily required.Included in the SB150 law is a provision that if:You are certified to apply fertilizerYou keep the records of application and weather at applicationAnd you develop and get approved a Voluntary Nutrient Management PlanThen yes a nutrient management plan can be used as part of an affirmative defense against a private civil action. This means that if you are sued by a neighbor for movement of nutrients off-site then being certified, having records and a nutrient management plan can be used in court to defend your actions. (I am not a lawyer, this is not to be construed as legal advice, I am just trying to pass on some education in the matter. As always contact your own lawyer for legal advice). The deeper question is, “Should you have a plan to manage nutrients?”And the answer is definitely yes. One way we think we can manage the nutrient loss problem is to know what nutrients we have available in our soils to understand what risk we have for loss of nutrients and to know how much we should apply to maintain our crops. With a nutrient management plan, we can answer the concerns and better manage nitrogen and phosphorus to reduce nutrient loss from our fields. Please contact your local Soil & Water Conservation District office to learn how to get started on a nutrient management plan. In northwest Ohio, some OSU Extension offices (Defiance, Fulton, Paulding and Wood) also have put plan writers on board. For the do-it-yourselfer, OSU has a Nutrient Management Workbook to develop your own plan, designed originally as a manure management tool. This also works for commercial fertilizer. Its available in hard copy at some Extension or SWCD offices and on-line at: http://agcrops.osu.edu/sites/agcrops/files/imce/fertility/NutrientManagementWorkbookRelease3.5.1.xlsm. I want to buy manure from a nearby livestock operation and they say I need to be certified to take the material?Yes, this is now true. As of July 2015 no person may apply manure from a concentrated animal feeding facility without a permit from ODA, unless you are a Certified Livestock Manager or you are certified through the Fertilizer Applicator Certification Training through the FACT programs that Extension is providing around the state. Again this is the two- or three-hour program we provide. Schedules are available at: http://pested.osu.edu/NutrientEducation. Records – what do I need to keep?Within 24 hours of nutrient application, record: Name of fertilizer certificate holder Name of applicator working under direct supervision of certificate holder (if any) Date of application Location (field ID, farm) Fertilizer analysis (such as 11-52-0) Rate of fertilizer application (pounds per acre) and total amount applied Fertilizer application method (surface-applied, incorporated, etc) Soil conditions For surface applications only: is ground frozen or snow covered? Temperature and precipitation during application and weather forecast for day following application.Oh, and keep those records of your nutrient application for three years. One very good place to get and print off the weather records and a forecast is http://weather.gov. I live in northwest Ohio – what does Senate Bill 1 mean? For applications of granular fertilizer (defined as nitrogen or phosphorous) or manure in the western Lake Erie basin, a person may not apply:(1) On snow-covered or frozen soil(2) When the top two inches of soil are saturated from precipitation(3) When the local weather forecast prediction for the application area contains greater than a 50% chance of precipitation exceeding: one inch in a 12 hour period for granular fertilizer one-half inch in a 24 hour period for manureunless the fertilizer/nutrient is injected into the ground, incorporated within 24 hours of surface application or applied to a growing crop. This affects all or part of 24 counties in northwest Ohio. Senate Bill 1 applies to manure application as well as fertilizer. Manure wasn’t necessarily considered in SB 150. Rumors have it that SB 1 will likely be extended to all of Ohio in the not too distant future.
Brad AndersonEditor In Chief at ReadWrite The Dos and Don’ts of Brand Awareness Videos Trends Driving the Loyalty Marketing Industry Digital Marketing Jobs in the Government Sector “Anyone here regret working in marketing?” A Reddit post asking this exact question is just a small piece of a growing pile of evidence: Marketers are finally infiltrating this under-the-brand-radar social media platform. And why wouldn’t they? Thousands of posts like this one spark lively online conversation among Reddit users, Redditors, every day, on a platform where anyone can share virtually anything — videos, images, questions, musings, analyses — often with a community of like-minded people who also have a unique take on that specific thing.Career satisfaction notwithstanding, marketers who continue to ignore Reddit as an advertising medium will probably end up regretting it.Reddit’s New Marketing AllureIndeed, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman and his team are working hard to lure advertisers to their platform, and major agency holding companies are now giving more credence to the notion that the site may provide a viable alternative to the duopoly of Google and Facebook. The site boasts 330 million active monthly users, making the self-proclaimed “Front Page of the Internet” the third-most-visited website in the U.S.Most of those 330 million are male, college-educated, and under 35, a user demographic that’s unique in the social media world, in part because a lot of Redditors aren’t on other social platforms. Marketers are also attuned to the fact that these users are, on average, far more engaged than users of other platforms and tend to make — and spend — more money than the average user on other social sites.Yet demographics aren’t the only thing that makes Reddit unique. As many new Redditors will tell you, navigating the site can be tricky at first. It comes with its own language and a unique system for rewarding site contributions, which can lead to a flood of questions for first-time users. Fortunately, answers aren’t hard to come by: All you have to do is ask.Big advertisers now say that clients are asking about the platform with greater frequency, and the nearly 15-year-old company seems poised to be the next big thing in marketing. So if you’re a marketer looking to dive into Reddit, here are three tips that could help you.1. Be helpful, and you’ll earn good karma. When Redditors post content or comments that other users appreciate via “upvoting,” they gain karma — the social currency that powers the site. Conversely, contributions that others view as detracting from the larger conversation will get downvoted, and thus karma can disappear just as easily.Brands that are new to the site should make a concerted effort to organically increase their “karmic score” by posting comments and links of value to other users; this will reflect a genuine effort to interact with the community in a meaningful way. It takes planning and thoughtfulness, but the payoff can be worth the effort. You won’t gain any special privileges, but you’ll be viewed as more credible, and your posts are more likely to garner attention.2. Find your community.Reddit’s active users tend to subscribe to a variety of communities, called subreddits, that align with their individual interests. Brands that have something to say about a particular topic should aim to be active within those smaller communities. Redditors are often eager to learn, and one of the best ways to educate and inform is through video, a favored medium on the platform.Hope Horner, CEO of video production company Lemonlight Media, stresses that on Reddit, brands should aim to be valuable rather than promotional when sharing any sort of media. “Reddit users are especially sensitive to advertising, so don’t post overtly promotional videos and expect nice comments,” Horner says. “Instead, pay attention to the preferences of the subreddit communities you want to target, and then participate in the conversation organically.”Whether on the home page or within a subreddit (or even within a conversation beneath a particular post), the platform’s scrolling content feed makes it ideal for posting GIFs. Capitalize on this by distilling the most engaging sections of your video down to 15 seconds or fewer and posting the clip to your community. Just don’t spam.3. Answer anything.Reddit offers brands opportunities for truly authentic engagement in a different format than other platforms. One of the broader subreddit categories, notated as /r/AMA, allows Redditors to create an “Ask Me Anything,” which invites other users to do exactly that. Celebrities, politicians, executives, and other public figures have used this outlet to connect with users in an authentic way and provide much-appreciated transparency. Some brands have started experimenting with the format as well. Audi, for instance, hosted a live AMA series complete with celebrity appearances and high-performance vehicles. Dubbed “Think Faster: The World’s Fastest AMA,” the series worked because it didn’t get too promotional. Rather than place the focus on its products, Audi made sure to give the spotlight to its celebrity guests, who attracted plenty of attention for the brand.Marketers still face some interesting obstacles to using Reddit effectively as an ad platform. Karma can disappear quickly, subreddits can be tough to break into, and AMAs can go horribly wrong. Still, the site’s user base represents a potential gold mine for many brands, and its leadership is clearly willing to help brands that are ready to start experimenting with the platform. Now might just be the perfect time.Additional Reading: Reddit Ads vs. Quora Ads – The $2.500 Experiment Related Posts Brad is the editor overseeing contributed content at ReadWrite.com. 3. Measure ConversionWhile your marketing channels may be driving a healthy volume of visitors, leads and customers every month it is important to track the conversion rate of each channel on a regular basis to see if they are performing consistently. In the example above the conversion rate for the Webinars channel (green) dropped for several months — December through February and regained some momentum in March. At the same time, the blog consistently delivered a reliable conversion rate month over month. I can look at these charts and make pretty reliable estimates for leads for future months.4. Track Business ResultsAt the end of the day, the job of marketing is to help drive business success. You should be able to look at each individual marketing channel and understand what is the yield for the effort and dollars to convert some number of visitors to customers. Social Media When you think about it, sharing on social media is a lot like bees carrying pollen. People who come across remarkable content spread it across the web, resulting in fertile discussion and the birth of new ideas — just like pollen gives birth to new fruit. But while this amazing phenomenon transpires in social media, businesses often fail to harvest the fruits of their labor. They fail to move their website visitors down their sales and marketing funnels by converting them to leads and sales. Of course, social media is first and foremost about people and dialog. But if it is being used as a business tool, you should get some business results from it! Here are some social media tips that you can apply at the top of the funnel that will help you move people lower down the funnel.1) Be relevant to your businessWe talk about being relevant in social media, especially when it comes to Twitter. However, if the content you’re sharing and the dialogs you’re having are not relevant to your business, where is the value to your bottom line? Share content that is fun but also share information that will attract relevant business visitors to your site. They are out there! 2) Be greedy for traffic Very simply, create your own content. While it is cool to share and retweet the content of thought leaders (I’m guilty); do your business a favor and write your opinions down as a blog post every once and while and share your response! You will build your brand and thought leadership and drive traffic to your own site! 3) Use calls-to-action to facilitate conversion I cannot stress this enough! You’ve done all the hard work for months building up followers, fans and friends. You’ve spent countless hours writing some remarkable content, engaging with them online and bringing them back to your site. How are you converting the relevant visitors to leads? A simple call-to-action at the bottom of your blog posts or on your website pages can help get you those leads your business needs! 4) Make it easy to share your contentPiggy backing on the previous point. Why not make it easy for your visitors to spread that around? A simple button like the one below can help gain you new followers and attract new potential customers. More than a few people I know are obsessive about having a ton of followers. However, it is important to cultivate the right kind of follower and friends base. Quality is important. Once you reach a certain critical mass quantity might become a factor, but in the short term the right people is more important than lots of people. To sum it up for all you hard working bees, it’s great to fill the top of your funnel using social media, but if you’re in it for business reasons, make sure your pollination results in some fruit that can be harvested! How have you been using social media to help with generating leads for your business? Lead Generation During HubSpot’s webinar about the power of customer evangelism , we asked attendees how much a lead was worth to them. Though we offered a broad range of answer choices—from $100 per lead to more than $10,000 per lead—the majority of respondents said they weren’t sure about the value of their leads. With surprise, we found out that 40 out of the 102 respondents “didn’t know.” Topics: Inbound Marketing Don’t forget to share this post! That means website pages including these words have generated inbound links, ultimately demonstrating that these terms resonate with your target market. 8 Ways to Use the Web As a Headline Testing Laboratory Amy Loves Yah Blog Analytics application Photo Credit: – With all the buzz today around the newest social media platforms, some of the earlier online communication platforms get forgotten. However, anyone who has participated in an industry forum will tell you that headlines are critical in getting your thread read. A forum allows a person to start a conversation by posting a message and then other community members can reply to that message. The great thing about most forums, is that they publicly display the views and replies for each thread. 2. Survey Your Readers to help drive leads for your business, but if you are willing to spend a little money, you can also use these platforms to conduct some broad title testing. Let’s say that you are about to launch an important new ebook for lead generation. I would recommend writing about 10-15 titles that you think would be good for the ebook. Note: Google, Bing or Facebook Remember that headlines are only one part of a successful offer, but by taking the time to conduct some additional testing, you should be able to increase lead flow and reduce your cost per lead. Inbound Marketing , you can send a message to your group with your proposed headline to see how well it performs. – If you have been creating content for a while, you have a great data set of historical content performance. Depending on the size of your email database and the amount of time you have available to conduct tests, email is an extremely valuable testing ground for headlines. The best way to get started is with a simple A/B test. Take a random portion of your email list (size will vary based on the overall size of your database) and divide it into two groups. Send each group the same email at the same time. The only difference should be the subject line. Using some of the other testing methods in this post, you now have a short list of headlines/subject lines that should preform well. The last step is to see which one of the finalists best resonates with your email subscribers. Look at the leads and click-through rates for each email send and select the winning send which should then be sent to the remainder of the list. HubSpot customer – You might be using pay-per-click advertisements on – To write headlines that resonate with people, you must have a clear understanding of what people want. This is why using a survey with other testing methods offers a more accurate understanding of the interests and needs of your audience.
