Ronald Martinez/Getty Images/AFPNEW YORK — The NBA is scrapping the East vs. West format for its All-Star Game and will have captains pick teams this season. The league said Tuesday the two starters with the highest fan vote totals from each conference will choose teams from the pool of players who were voted as starters and reserves.ADVERTISEMENT The 10 starters will continue to be chosen by a combination of fan, player and media balloting, with the coaches from each conference then selecting the 14 reserves. The captains will then draft their teams at an undetermined time — making certain that those chosen starters are split up so they remain starters. The teams will play for charity. They will select either a Los Angeles-area or national organization for donations to go.Sports Related Videospowered by AdSparcRead Next Carpio hits red carpet treatment for China Coast Guard PLAY LIST 02:14Carpio hits red carpet treatment for China Coast Guard02:56NCRPO pledges to donate P3.5 million to victims of Taal eruption00:56Heavy rain brings some relief in Australia02:37Calm moments allow Taal folks some respite03:23Negosyo sa Tagaytay City, bagsak sa pag-aalboroto ng Bulkang Taal01:13Christian Standhardinger wins PBA Best Player award OSG plea to revoke ABS-CBN franchise ‘a duplicitous move’ – Lacson Mos Burger to open in Manila; teases with a pop-upcenter_img Don’t miss out on the latest news and information. Jagdeo says private charges against Ministers not tit for tat

first_imgOpposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo has debunked claims that the private charges filed against Government Ministers, Dr George Norton and Volda Lawrence by two Opposition Members of Parliament is not a tit for tat, but rather is the first step in trying to end Government corruption at all levels.Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo“We have been for ages trying to get redress on these matters,” Jagdeo said, explaining that the Government is engaged in talks about corruption but has not made any concerted effort to address it from its root.He made reference to Government officials talking about the issue at several major conferences, including the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting. In other cases, experts were brought here to conduct sessions with law enforcement officers to address corruption.“But on these matters where they have real instances of corruption, they are unwilling to take any action in spite of the work done by the media on these matters to expose them and the calls by civil society and the Opposition for the Government to respond to them,” he observed. He said more actions would be filed in the coming weeks.last_img read more
